Comic Books for Justice (CB4J) is a groundbreaking literacy and wellness initiative that uses the power of comics to promote reading, imagination, and emotional well-being in carceral and system-impacted communities.
Launched in 2025 in partnership with the New York Public Library, CB4J has rapidly expanded its reach and impact—bringing culturally relevant, engaging reading materials to individuals and youth who are too often denied access to educational resources.
Education is a critical pathway to opportunity, yet people involved in the criminal legal system frequently face barriers to learning. CB4J works to close that gap by placing comics directly into correctional facilities and community spaces, where they can build literacy skills, encourage self-expression, and foster hope.
Through storytelling, creativity, and representation, CB4J empowers readers to see themselves reflected in the stories they read—and to imagine new possibilities for their futures.
Because access to stories is access to opportunity.
